Rev. Chi Kei Wong Wrongly Targeted
There have been recent reports in the print and online media that have made wrongful and dishonest statements about Rev. Chi Kei Wong, surrounding the estate of Mrs. Margaret Liu, who died in 2005.
Mrs. Liu was a member of Chinese Gospel Church of Toronto (CGC) where Rev. Wong has been on full-time staff since 2001. Mrs. Liu’s surviving family members have been contesting their mother’s will, in which she bequeathed her home to a charitable organization that has no association with CGC. Despite these legally verifiable facts, as part of the Liu family’s campaign to overturn the will, they along with their supporters, have made numerous false and injurious statements about both Rev. Wong and CGC that have been documented in the media, as well as in distributed leaflets, signs, and banners used in an organized protest outside CGC on June 29, 2008.
On behalf of the members, volunteers, staff, and leaders of CGC, its Board of Directors specifically and categorically refutes all of the false statements made by the Liu family and its supporters and in particular upholds Rev. Wong as a pastoral leader of integrity and faith who has served his congregants including Mrs. Liu selflessly without any blemish. He has suffered silently throughout the current ordeal and continues to have the full respect, support, and confidence of CGC and its broader community.
